Fears of an economic downturn failed to stop buyers of Old Master drawings. In sales on Wednesday at Sotheby's in New York, 65 of the 104 Italian drawings consigned by a high-profile American collector, Jeffrey E. Horvitz, sold for an aggregate $4.96 million, and in the afternoon, drawings from various owners added another $4.23 million.
