Vintage Superbikes at Bonhams' 2008 Stafford Sale
Bonhams is delighted to announce the early consignment to its first major collectors' motorcycle sale of 2008 of two of the Vintage era's most highly regarded and sought after 'superbikes' - “Brough Superior SS100 and Coventry-Eagle Flying-8“ to be sold at The Classic MotorCycle Show, Stafford on 27th April 2008.
1934 Brough Superior 8/75hp 'Two-of-Everything'
Legendary superbike of motorcycling's between-the-wars 'Golden Age', Brough Superior – 'The Rolls-Royce of Motorcycles' - was synonymous with high performance, engineering excellence and quality of finish. Always the perfectionist, Brough bought only the best available components for his bikes, reasoning that if the product was right, a lofty price tag would be no handicap. And in the 'Roaring Twenties' there were sufficient wealthy connoisseurs around to prove him right. One such was T E Lawrence - 'Lawrence of Arabia' - who owned several Broughs and was killed riding an SS100.
Estimate £120,000 - £140,000

Historic Triumph Land Speed Motorbike with Pedigree
There’s a vintage Triumph bobber motorbike for auction in the U.S. The motorbike was purpose built for land speed racing at Bonneville Salt Flats and El Mirage dry lake speed runs. The 650cc racer was custom built by the Mesler Brothers in the mid-sixties for drag racing, but was quickly converted to be a land speed racer.
The bike was built to run on nitromethane and has made runs in excess of 160 MPH at Bonneville. The current owner is including the SCTA brass timing tag that documents the bike’s 158 MPH run at El Mirage in 1978, as well as other memorabilia documenting the motorbike’s pedigree.
This sleek custom Triumph also has a spare engine. The spare engine is a British built 750cc with finless jugs. The owner is willing to ship the bike worldwide. This historic bike has a pedigree that dates back to it’s initial construction around 1965 and would make a great addition to a vintage superbike collection.
